Immanuel Christian School

Love for Christ, service before self, and in all things, honor.

Academics

Immanuel Christian School students are responsible to actively pursue their education. ICS teachers and staff are willing to work with students who have academic problems, but will not be able to work with students who are unwilling to heartily concentrate their efforts on the academic tasks before them.

Our goal at ICS is that students accept an increasing responsibility for their work. Errors reflect either a lack of understanding or careless work. Therefore, elementary students will correct their daily assignments until the teacher is satisfied that the work is done accurately and carefully. All students will be encouraged to work carefully and to learn from their mistakes. Homework assignments are a necessary part of the academic process. The amount of homework will be reasonable if a student is diligent in school. As the student proceeds through the grades, homework time will increase.

D, F, and Incomplete notices from regular tests, quizzes, and course work are mailed to parents. Interim reports are mailed at each mid-quarter fro grade averages below C. Report cards are sent by mail at the end of each quarter.

Elementary Classes:

Starting in kindergarten, children learn that school is fun and learning is an adventure. They learn decoding skills, numeration and are set for first and second grade. During the next two years, students study phonics and are drilled in basic math skills. By the end of second grade, all children should be able to have the word skills necessary to read a dictionary.

In the remainder of the elementary grades, children memorize large amounts of information that become the building blocks for future education.  Lists of verbs of being, states and capitals, historic documents and multiplication facts are examples of this.  In fifth grade, students begin the process of writing term papers and understand the procedure necessary to producing quality writing.  Seventh and eighth graders begin studying the fundamentals of foreign languages, mathematical understanding, and basic interpretation of literature.
High School:

In high school, students build on all the information they have gathered through the years, and are encouraged to make connections and practical application of their studies.

NILD:

ICS also provides educational therapy through the NILD (National Institute of Learning Development) Program.
